Government HR Official Fesses Up to Bribery Scheme

A former government official who headed up human resources pleaded guilty earlier this month to a scheme where he abused his power to secure contracts in exchange for bribes. That's according to the United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Texas.

guiltyArnoldo Romeo Flores Jr., who served as director of human resources/civil service for Cameron County in Brownsville, Texas, pleaded guilty to interstate travel in aid of racketeering, said Acting U.S. Attorney Jennifer B. Lowery. Flores acknowledged using his personal cell phone and email and the internet to carry out the bribery scheme.

Flores offered up information that advantaged certain people participating in bidding processes. In one case, he told a person that they could win a bid if they kept it under $8,900. Flores then received $3,000 for that tip.

Flores’ sentencing date is June 15. He faces up to five years in prison and a potential maximum fine of $250,000.
