Congressional Shake-Up Dims Hopes for Immigration Reform

It's been an issue hanging over Congress like the sword of Damocles for years. Immigration reform has implications for the national economy, American businesses, hiring practices – not to mention politics and the presidential election of 2016. So reports the Miami Herald.

It impacts the nation's burgeoning Hispanic population disproportionately, but also Asians and immigrants from every shore seeking a better life. Now it seems to have abruptly ended the rising political career of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), who was widely expected to succeed John Boehner as the next Speaker of the House.

With Capitol Hill blindsided by the unexpected Tea Party candidate victory in the Virginia primary, other pending legislation affecting the business community (including a proposal to raise the minimum wage) is likely doomed as well – at least for now.
