Deloitte: Leadership Gap the Big ‘Elephant in the Room’

A large-scale Deloitte study entitled 'Global Human Capital Trends 2015' shows a gap between the need for better leadership in personnel and corrective action being taken to address that shortcoming. So reports Benefits Pro.

Of the Human Resources executives that responded, 78% identified leadership as the most important company variable, yet only 42% indicated they believed their company was up to snuff in that area. They also report a 31% gap between the importance of "culture and engagement" and readiness to address issues in that area.

Further, they found close to a 30% gap between importance and readiness in; "learning and development," "reinventing HR," and "workforce capability." The study also points out HR managers rate their performance and the performance of their employees better than non-HR employees rate themselves and HR departments.

Additionally, the study noted that there is room for improvement when it comes to using available data tools. “HR should now make serious investments in leveraging data to make people decisions," according to the report. "People analytics, a strategy that has been evolving over the last several years, has the potential to change the way HR will work. However, HR organizations appear to be slow in developing the capabilities to take advantage of analytics’ potential.”
