More Than Half of ‘Sick’ Employees Are Faking It: Study

A Morneau Shepell survey found 52% of employees who call in sick actually have medical illness. So reports Business Vancouver.

The report shows that there is a series of reasons for employee sick days, including issues with management, family matters and workplace conflict. Some employees even reported they took sick time to look for another job.

However, the relationship between taking sick time and not having a medical illness could be more complicated than the statistics indicate on the surface. According to Stanford School of Medicine’s Center on Stress and Health, stress, which may be a factor leading to employees taking unscheduled time off, may eventually lead to sickness.

Cancer and heart disease are reportedly connected to stress, according to Stanford.
