HR Units Undergoing Identity Crisis, Seeking Authenticity

As automation makes payroll and benefits easier, the traditional roles of HR departments are shifting. A new focus on culture-building and the facilitation of a workplace culture that is designed to retain employees has become the norm. So reports Bloomberg Business.

Keeping employees happy is in everyone's best interest. A 2011 Gallup survey showed $300 billion in losses in the U.S. due to "actively disengaged" workers. However, forcing fun on employees can be counterproductive and will not lead to an authentic, positive workplace culture.
