Apple Makes Concerted Effort to Increase Diversity

Apple’s top HR officer Denise Young Smith said there may be some heavy lifting ahead when it comes to diversifying Apple’s talent pool, but top leadership is up to the task. So reports CNET.

Smith is Apple's vice president of worldwide human resources and recently spoke about improving the company’s diversity at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, Colorado. Of the 98,000 employees that work for Apple around the world--counting those in retail positions and non-technical roles--70% are male.

Smith said it may take some time to make substantial strides, but CEO Tim Cook is “personally involved” in the effort. Cook, who recently publically acknowledged he is gay, wrote that his personal experiences have helped him understand the challenges people in minority groups deal with regularly.
