Phishing Scammers Using Tax Season to Target HR Pros

Scammers are using tax season to get human resource departments to turn over personal information of employees, with several companies already in hot water for falling for the scams. So reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Snapchat and Seagate Technology have already allegedly relinquished tax documents with employee incomes, Social Security numbers and home addresses. The crux of the scam is getting HR managers to turn over W2 forms that can be used to file bogus returns, and claim unwarranted refunds.

The scammers pretend to be high-ranking company officials. The IRS reported a 400% increase in phishing and computer malware scams this tax season.
