What Makes a Successful Manager?

In today’s frenetic-paced corporate world, good managers are both hard to come by and more important to an organization’s success than ever. That’s according to HBR.

On a micro level, effective management needs to help employees grow and develop; maximize their strengths; continue to learn new skills; and maintain an ongoing dialogue with their teams about individual goals and strengths.

On a more macro plane, the success or failure of a good manager can result in high employee turnover, and quantifiable loss to an organization’s bottom line. A management professor from a leading French business school has some interesting ideas on how managers can help their people develop within the organization – which, in turn, can strengthen employees’ commitment to the firm and its ultimate success.
