Of 474 HR managers surveyed by CareerNet Co., a South Korean-based online job search site, 43% said they would back restrictions on hiring smokers. Just under 42% said it was necessary for ‘the health of each employee.’
Just over 66% said giving workers incentives to quit smoking is ideal, while 33.7% are open to penalizing smokers, including keeping them from applying for other positions in the company or having them sign a pledge to not smoke on the job. But 57% oppose restrictions on smokers, noting it is a matter of choice and freedom and that such a policy could cause good talent to flee.
