HR executives on Forbes Human Resources Council say it is time for their firms’ leadership to appreciate that HR has a lot more to offer. The “go-to” department when it comes to overseeing recruitment, compensation, benefits and company polices, HR also can provide valuable input on overall planning for the business, says Meg Battle of Rabin Martin.
“HR leaders have a wealth of valuable information to share and want the opportunity to support the planning of growth strategies, succession plans and long-term business goals,” she notes.
Top management needs to really think of HR as talent managers, says Angela Nguyen of Ad Exchange Group. “Business owners usually think of human resources in terms of compliance and risk mitigation,” she says. “But a strong HR expert could and should also function as a talent manager: one who has an eye for raw talent and strong work ethic, a mind for developing solid, loyal impact players who are invested in the company’s success, and the finesse required to manage egos and expectations up the ladder.”
