Casey Dowd, a retired Boomer who’s chosen to continue working, offers some interesting suggestions for part-time work for a population that was distinctly shaped by its cultural upbringing. Among his recommendations:
- For fans of the 1950s TV show “The Mickey Mouse Club” or those who have visited a Disney theme park, amusement parks around the country offer abundant part-time possibilities. You can escort tourists around the grounds, help load or unload rides, or work at a gift shop or concession stand.
- “The Loveboat,” anybody? Cruise ships are a great way to impart your knowledge of a skill like golf, bridge, water sports, arts & crafts, dance or photography while seeing the world and visiting exotic ports of call in exchange for room and board and teaching your area of expertise to fellow passengers.
- Sports enthusiasts can readily find part-time work at baseball and football stadiums and other sports arenas. You can be an usher, ticket-taker, transport players and staff to and from airports – and even take in a game while you’re at it.
- Be a virtual assistant; a work-from-home bookkeeper; or seek out a library, especially on a college campus where they may have multiple shifts around the clock.
