Pay equity means every worker, from baristas to corporate executives, receives the same pay as their colleagues doing the same work.
"Roughly 10 years ago we began serious work to ensure women and men—of all ethnicities and races—are compensated fairly at Starbucks," says Lucy Helm, chief partner officer at Starbucks. "We believe it is important to encourage others to join us in recognising the importance of this issue, not just for our partners, but for women all around the world." The firm refers to its employees as partners.
While Japan and China are among the markets that Starbucks will soon target for its equal pay structure, the firm did not give a specific date of when this would happen.
