CEOs named David, Peter, Chris and Simon also top women in this position by two to one. These findings come from the New York Times Glass Ceiling Index.
As of last year, only one woman, Kate McKenzie of Chorus, held the CEO spot for companies on the New Zealand Exchange 50. Theresa Gattung, who became the first woman CEO in the country to run a big public company, said the findings were dismal.
"Companies really need to have programmes to nurture a strong pipeline of female talent behind whoever the current CEO is, whether they are a man or women," she said.
