NZ Employers Becoming More Generous with Perks

With New Zealand's unemployment rate the lowest it's been since the global Great Recession, employers are offering up more perks in a bid to attract and retain good workers. So reports Stuff.

"Losing good talent and going through the hiring process is expensive for a company," says Stephen Blumenfeld, Victoria University's centre for labour, employment, and work director.

Vodafone gives its employees the day off on their birthday, but also allows them to use that day some other time. The "your day" policy is an extra day off during the year for workers to do as they please, says Katie Williams, head of human resources.

"We changed our birthday day off to 'your day' as a result of our people saying they wanted this flexibility," Williams said.
