Foxconn, known for running the biggest iPhone factories in the world, said it had learned “that an unauthorized recruitment agency may be using our name illegally for recruitment purposes and without Foxconn approval,” the firm noted in an statement to Inkstone News.
That agency, Li Zhong Human Resources, was alleged to have openly excluded ethnic minorities seeking employment, specifically Tibetans and Uyghurs. Labor advocates and experts in China say the firm is one of many that discriminate.
Foxconn said it was doing a probe on the allegations against the HR agency with a promise to help stop discrimination in hiring. It has promised to cut ties with those who fail a code of conduct. “We immediately alerted local government officials to this possible illicit activity and an investigation into the recruitment agency in question is underway,” Foxconn said in its statement.
