Korean Employers Face Jail Time for Workplace Bullying

Korean employers will face potential jail time after lawmakers passed new legislation last month that holds them to account for unfairly firing workers who allege harassment in the workplace. So report South China Morning Post.

Company employers who “unfairly demote or dismiss” workers who allege harassment could face three years in prison or be fined as high as US$25,400. One labour rights group cited several examples of employer abuse, including ordering employees to write essays for a supervisor’s child, performing “sexy dances” for executives and pulling out a manager's grey hairs.

Two-thirds of employees cited harassment at the workplace and 80% said they were witnesses to such harassment, according to a recent government survey.
