Japan Gives Gov’t Workers OK to Take Second Job

Japan has given government employees the OK to take on a second job as the country contends with a labor shortage. So reports The Japan Times.

japan 112722 640 smallMunicipal and prefectural governments granted 41,669 approvals in 2018 for their employees to work a second job, something that these workers were typically prohibited from doing.

The internal affairs ministry notes that 11,506 of the additional jobs that were green-lighted in fiscal year 2018 were linked to areas that benefit society as a whole. These include disaster preparation and response, crime prevention and jobs related to sports, culture and the arts.

The remaining 30,163 jobs spanned from agriculture and real estate to family businesses.
