Services Australia, a government agency, is looking to hire 5,000 workers to help process an influx of welfare applications. “We’ve embarked on an extensive training program, and we are in the process of recruiting,” says Hank Jongen, general manager at Services Australia.
Private sector telecommunications company, Telstra, was looking to hire 1,000 temporary call centre employees to deal with an overwhelming number of customer calls. The firm and its telecom competitors are targeting potential hires from unemployed workers in the airline industry who have customer service experience.
Supermarket chain Coles brought on 7,000 workers over the last two weeks of March, and is looking to hire 5,000 additional workers.
