Target also has boosted current benefits by doubling the amount of paid family leave as well as what it reimburses employees for expenses incurred with adoptions and surrogacy. The new and upgraded benefits comes after Target announced that it would lift the minimum wage from $12 to $13 an hour, which started last month.
“Our workforce, like the communities we serve, is multigenerational,” the firm announced. “Our team members face growing caregiving responsibilities including infants, children, spouses, domestic partners and aging parents.”
The 20 backup care days had previously been limited to Target employees at the firm’s Minneapolis headquarters. Target’s benefits are for hourly and salaried workers, with paid family leave having taken effect June 30. The adoption and surrogacy reimbursement benefit is already in effect, while the backup care benefit starts this fall.
