In addition to doing in-depth homework about the company, department and position, job seekers will want to ensure their responses are well-thought-out and smooth. Here are a few questions they are likely to hear:

  • Tell me about yourself. In addition to setting the tone for the remainder of the conversation, job seekers need to sell their “brand.” They should include their current responsibilities, past position titles and some key accomplishments.
  • Why do you want to work here? If they've done their homework, they shouldn’t be afraid to show it. They should share positive insights about the company, their performance, recent publicity, etc.
  • What do you consider your greatest strengths? Job seekers need to show how they will add value to a firm. They should include skills targeted to the position they're seeking and how they’ve used them to do excellent work in the past. They should give quantifiable results, if they can.
  • Give me a time when you… Also known as “event-specific” questions, job seekers will want to cite accomplishments that are in sync with the targeted skills in the job posting.
  • Do you have any questions for us? Yes – this is not optional. Its good for job seekers to start off with something open-ended like “How can I make your job easier?” “What do you feel are the most critical components of this position?”
