Julia Evans alleges in her wrongful dismissal suit that days before the CBC fired her in June without cause or reasonable notice that she was “experiencing severe bouts of stress, anxiety and depression as a direct result of a toxic work environment engendered by (the CBC).”

Evans’ lawsuit follows a suit by an HR executive that involved a former radio host who faced sexual harassment charges, but was acquitted. In May, the National Post reported Todd Spencer, former executive director of human resources and industrial relations, had sued CBC alleging he was fired after being “politically scapegoated.” Spencer had headed up the investigation on the radio host. 

Evans does not disclose in her suit why she was fired and does not mention the former radio host. A CBC spokesman maintains that “Evans was let go for cause and we stand by that decision.”
