Idaho HR Panel: Ditch 900-Page Manual

Relying on, or expecting workers to read though, a thick employee handbook may be counterproductive. So reports Idaho Business Review.

“Less is more,” says Patti Perkins, owner of Calyx-Weaver Associates, an HR consulting company. She made her remarks at a HR panel last month.

“You need some policies and procedures no doubt, but I really don’t like the idea of the 900-page policy manual," she says. "Nobody would read that.”

Perkins said that training managers and employees on how to use good judgment would be more efficient. Proper behavior in the workplace “is really just common sense,” she said.
