Should Firms Ditch HR?

Lawrence Jones’ views on human resources will not sit well with proponents of the profession. So reports The Financial Times.

Jones contends that companies, such as his, with a flat management structure could do without HR. Instead, he says senior managers need to take charge of making sure their workers are happy and to fix problems.

The firm offers newly married employees an extra week off. It also offers sleep pods and a nearly $12,900 bonus to employees who have worked 10 years.

Jones also questions HR’s increasing dependence on data to do their job. “You want to spot problems before they happen,” he said. “I don’t want data to be the driver.”
