Netflix Settles Sexual Harrassment Case Brought By Ex-HR Director

A former human resources director for Netflix, who alleges the company allowed harassment and discrimination to fester, has settled. So reports the Hollywood Reporter.

Barry Coleman alleged that after working at Netflix for a few months in 2016, he found that the company’s “veneer of a perfect disruptive, progressive” operation was a fantasy. After being fired, Coleman sued claiming that Netflix had an unofficial policy of “tolerating harassment and discrimination” from its executives.

Coleman also alleged that a male supervisor approached him in a romantic manner. “Being heterosexual, [Coleman] was uncomfortable with [the supervisor’s] advances and attempted to keep some distance so as not to offend his superior,” a complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court read. “However, the invitations to go out continued.”

Netflix and Coleman entered arbitration and struck a settlement for Coleman’s $1.5 million claims that requires him to remain silent. While Netflix settled, it has strongly denied Coleman’s claims.
