Oregon Politicos Get Schooled on Sexual Harassment

Oregon legislators and others working at the state’s capital were schooled on sexual misconduct and how to report it. So reports the Associated Press.

The training, which already had been mandatory for lawmakers and their immediate employees, is now offered to executive branch employees, lobbyists and others working at the Capitol, says Senate President Peter Courtney.

The Legislature’s lawyers and its HR director provided the training. Oregon is one of at least 27 states that mandate both legislative chambers in those respective states to do sexual harassment training. Courtney notes that “practice and repetition help athletes perform at a higher level on game day. The best teams don’t take days off.”

“In the same way, we provide this training every year,” he said. “It helps members of the Capitol community treat each other and the public with respect.”
