The issue came up last month during a legislative management committee meeting where legislators discussed a report that reviewed how competitive the body was with compensation and employee resources versus other states. It found that there was no “formal employee pay plan with market-based ranges designed to promote internal pay equity and external competitiveness.”
While the report noted that Vermont’s state legislature was similar to its counterparts in other states that also lack HR offices, the need for such departments in light of #MeToo makes the body vulnerable to legal problems. “In today’s very litigious and complex world of employment law, all organizations need guidance, advice and workplace solutions offered by human resources professionals,” the report noted.
