The modern workplace culture is reverting to an era that emphasized independent contract work rather than that of fully committed employees, and the results may be detrimental. So reports Fortune.

An overall lack of “humanity” with respect to the treatment of employees is creating workplaces devoid of strong social fulfillment. In turn, employees are missing out on the benefits of feeling like they are part of a group, a primal desire wired into humans. Also, many companies offer snacks and games in order to distract them from the reality of their long hours and lack of economic security. ​
