Law Firms Math-Challenged When It Comes to Women Partners

Women at U.S law firms comprise only 18% of partners, while making up 47% of law degree recipients and about half of associates at firms. So reports Bloomberg Law

“So, here’s the math problem: if nearly half of the partner candidate pools for law firms are comprised of women, but less than 20% of their equity partners are women, are they choosing the best candidates for partner?” Bryan L. Olson, chief human resources officer at K&L Gates writes in an op-ed. “The answer: statistically, probably not.”

A potential solution is for men in leadership positions to be proactive in creating change by sponsoring women lawyers, Olson notes.
