Bosses Liked By Employees, But Room for Improvement: Survey

Most employees are happy with their bosses, but there are areas that could get better, according to Accountemps.

In a survey of 1,000 U.S. workers by an independent research firm on behalf of Accountemps, 64% of employees said they like their bosses while 29% said they were somewhat happy and 8% gave their bosses failing grades. But employees cited a few problem areas including 37% and 31% who said communication and recognition, respectively, could be improved.

And while they may like their bosses, 67% of employees say they would not want the job. Of that group, 45% said the stress and responsibility were not worth it and 27% had no interest in managing others.

"Managers can sometimes get a bad rap, but in reality most professionals understand that the job is tough and complex and may not be for everyone," said Bill Driscoll, district president for Accountemps. "The challenge for many bosses today isn't just identifying a successor but convincing that professional to step up to the challenge."

However, the survey also found that 34% of employees ditch their job because of a bad relationship with their bosses. And 17% said they would be happier if their boss quit.
